Cow Level – Diablo II
« Back to Story
Diablo was one of the biggest games around when it hit PC’s back in 1996. Its popularity brought about a lot of talk among gamers; a lot of which churned up all manner of secrets and rumors. One of these rumors was that a hidden level existed where players could face an army of angry cows. While the cows were present in the game, they were strictly for show and the level simply didn't exist. Due to the huge popularity of the rumor, Blizzard did fans a solid and created the rumored ‘cow level’ when Diablo’s sequel came out in 2000. The level featured a simple grass landscape filled with Hell Bovines that walked on two legs and carried Polearms. If a player managed to defeat the hordes of mad cows, they’d face the Cow King, who always dropped rare items. To reach this level, players would have to finish a game, make a new game under the same difficulty, then toss a ‘Tome of Town Portal’ with ‘Wirt’s Pegleg’ into the Horadric Cube in the Rogue Encampment and transmute it. A portal will appear and welcome you into the less-than-loving arms of some seriously pissed off cattle.
