The Gamer Guy’s Alphabet: X is for XEROX
« Back to Story
As is the case with movies of the same vein, horror games employ a limited array of cliched scare-o-tactics. Resident Evil, as such, indulged in capers first introduced by Alone in the Dark. In this franchise, players were often -get this!- alone. IN THE DARK. Beset by ghastly (and blur-tastic, this being a wrinkly-titted ancient game and all) underworld entities, granted, but ‘alone’ nonetheless. The notion of stealthing through corridors apparently bereft of light switches has been regurgitated ad nauseam. So, too, have THERE’S SHIT IN MY PANTS! I HAVE MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT THIS WHOLE SITUATION jump scares, creep-tacular ambient sounds and other such horror stalwarts. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dead Space, Dementium et al all plunder each others’ repertoires in this regard.
