Downtown Abbey. This British soap opera about the lives of the super-wealthy and their servants wowed American audiences and then became even more American by using that ever-so-overused trope of amnesia in its second season. The overarching plot of the show revolves around finding a male heir to take control of the Abbey after one dies in the Titanic. Or did he? No he did. Unless you believe that disfigured WWI vet who shows up and claims to be the missing heir with amnesia, suddenly throwing the entire household into panic and disarray.
