The Cake is a Lie – ?
« Back to Story
Portal is a huge fan favorite among titles of the past decade. While relatively short, Portal was a game that bent your mind and caused you to think outside the box to get from room to room with your Weighted Companion Cube. One thing I’ll always remember about Portal is the creepy yet humorous antagonist and it’s very…unique personality. Maybe it’s because GLaDOS was a machine, but her/its psychotic personality gave the game the same type of innocence with an underlying corruption that you can see in a lot of older Disney movies…you know what I’m talking about. GLaDOS promises the player freedom and rewards (one of which is cake) upon completion of all the rooms’ puzzles but ends up rewarding you with a complete ‘360’ to say the least. Players who found a secret room within the laboratory were greeted with various messages scribbled on the wall, including ‘The Cake is a Lie’, which would later be seen as a hint towards the ending of the game.
