Story, story, story…

I always stress the need for a strong story in video games. Unfortunately, a lot of games are seriously lacking these nowadays. Most of the complaints I’ve heard about Dead Island are regarding the story itself and, while I love that game, they have a point there and it’s an aspect of the game I can’t ignore; like a paint chip on a freshly painted wall. The idea of having a zombie game set in a beautiful tropical setting is a really unique idea and is the main thing that caught my eye when the trailer came out. I’m convinced that, with a strong story that actually involves the characters and is more than a simple ‘we need to get off the island’ type of deal, Riptide could become one of the greatest games of 2013. Give the characters real reasons for doing what they’re doing. If you want to get off the island, grab a boat and head for the beach. The story just didn’t make a lot of sense and felt really lazily put together. Do it right this time…my contact info is after the byline.
