The battle between Pro Evolution/Winning Eleven Soccer and FIFA was red  hot during the mid 2000s with EA SPORTS' franchise dazzling gamers with visuals and officially licensed everything and the Konami game capturing their hearts with authentic tactics and intuitive controls. In 2012, the FIFA series is one of the most powerful franchises in the video games (seriously, it carries Electronic Arts as a company) and Pro Evolution Soccer is struggling to get attention. We're not sure how much of a war is still going on between those two but one soldier from the PES 2013 side is firing verbal attacks on FIFA.

I'm saying (the developer of FIFA Soccer) have a long history of copying PES to get to where they want to be.….(W)e shouldn't forget that PES innovated all of this stuff and they did copy it.

-Jon Murphy Pro Evolution Soccer Team Leader, Europe

Those are the strongest words you might ever hear from one video game creator talking about another. That rare candid moment comes courtesy of Eurogamer and we strongly encourage you to check out the full Q&A because there's a lot more where that came from. Murphy's thoughts however are very representative of the dilemma of sports video games. Soccer is still soccer, just like basketball is still basketball. Developers are tasked with balancing the realism of the sport with the reality that games are supposed to fun and accessible. There's going to be some overlap and borrowing as things mature.

The most exciting part here is a game creator sniping at the competition. More of this, please.

Sound off in the comments section below: would you enjoy more video game industry "beefing" or is that too grade school for your sophisticated tastes?
