The two years of retro-themed covers for the NBA 2K series have come to an end with the revelation of Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin as the triple-faced cover athletes for NBA 2K13. Some people might say 2K Sports has the future of the NBA representing this year's games and this is one of the instances where some people would be right.
Even with the Finals loss, Durant and the Thunder are the power in the Western Conference and I've gone on record that a healthy Blake Griffin and the Clippers (once they realize Vinny Del Negro is not the answer) will be their strongest challengers in the near future. Lakers, Spurs and Mavericks fans can suck on that truth until it turns sweet. Derrick Rose, on the other hand, is in trouble. He won't be ready to even test the health of his knee until next spring and then we'll see if his NBA career has a chance to get back on track. I've never heard of an NBA 2K curse, but Bulls fans had better start hoping for an NBA 2K blessing. Hell Michael Jordan went in the Hall of Fame after his turn on NBA 2K 11 and Kobe Bryant won another title after his appearance on 2K10's cover.
So with the NBA 2K 13 blessing in mind, here's hoping Kevin Durant gets back to the Finals, Derrick Rose gets his knees back and Blake Griffin develops a 15-foot jump shot.
