There was once an age when the following sentence would have been laughed at and derided for hour after hour after hour but we are now in a different age, Manchester City are two victories way from lifting the Premier League title. Crazy, crazy days but City are there on merit and are a formidable outfit in world football now.

Vincent Kompany's goal deep into first half stoppage time at the Etihad on Monday was enough to separate the two Manchester sides with their being a real sense at City's home stadium that they had finally eclipsed their most bitterest of rivals.

Alex Ferguson's men were set up in a rather defensive formation with Wayne Rooney given a lone striking role and reliable midfielders Park Ji-Sung and Ryan Giggs played in a five man midfield that were used to stifle the likes of Yaya Toure, David Silva and Samri Nasri. A task which they ultimately failed.

So where does this leave us? Well, United and City are now level on points but City have a +8 goal difference and are currently in a rich vein of form whilst United have stuttered towards the season's conclusion.

So going into the final two games of the season City now just have to defeat Newcastle (a) and QPR (h) respectively to win the league. But if they fail to do so Manchester United will win the title as long as they beat both Swansea (h) and Sunderland (a). So it seems that City will finally win their first Premier League title but this season has had so many twists and turns I wouldn't be surprised to see another shock over the next 180 minutes.
