Those of you who haven't managed to purchase the latest PSN hit from that game company, conveniently titled 'thatgamecompany', now have more of a reason than ever to do so.
Since Journey was advertised very scarcely with very little showing what the game actually was like I, like almost everyone else who bought the game, went off vague trailers and the occasional review. I was more then satisfied, however, with the result of my $15 leaving my PSN wallet because Journey really did just that...it took me on an unforgettable visual and audio journey.
Straight from the official Playstation Blog, 'thatgamecompany' has announced that Journey has broken Playstation Network and Playstation Store sales records, surpassing all games ever released on the PlayStation Network to become the fastest-selling game ever released on PlayStation Store.
That's just insane in my eyes, but 'thatgamecompany' has always been focused on taking the idea of a game and making it something so much more so I say, well done good sir. I'd tip my hat to you if I wore one.
After we released Flower in 2009, players sent hundreds of emails about their experience with the game. They varied from a 9-year-old girl to a 65-year-old man, from a marine serving duty overseas, to a soldier returning from Iraq. There were even stories about a mother's memory of her two children in the wheat fields, a surreal butterfly fantasy from someone's grandmother who passed away, and a young man who spoke about his brother who has Down syndrome. Those kinds of letters are what drive us at TGC to keep working. -Jenova Chen (Co-Founder, thatgamecompany)
Chen also goes on to mention the overwhelming amount of players who have fallen in love with the music in Journey. He then announced the release of the Journey soundtrack stating, 'I'm happy to announce that the soundtrack will be hitting the PS Store and iTunes on April 11, and there will be a limited CD release in the near future as well'
So, in conclusion, it looks like it's a pretty good day for 'thatgamecompany'. They definitely earned it.
Oh and if you're still not 100% set on buying the game yet, just check out the first minute and a half of gameplay leading to the fantastically simple intro and really open yourself up to the experience.
