Jessica Chastain Backpedaling

Jessica "Transformative Social Change*" Chastain managed to elevate her unlikeableness to Lena Dunham heights during the #MeThree! outbreak of 2017, but in the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter, she is taking a notably more laissez-faire approach to not only rape, but all going ons in Tinsel Town. In September of 2017 Chastain promised to bring "transformative social change*," and since I guess she wasn't able to check that off her do-to list, throwing in the towel and doing a 180 is the next best thing. When asked if she was aware that she was previously exuding all the charisma of a lesbian with a bullhorn and opinions, Chastain responded:

Oh gosh, my interviews sometimes do sound preachy. I get a little bit like, ‘Here we go, we’re gonna talk about this’ … When I read them back it just sounds like I’m lecturing, saying how life should be lived. And in actuality, I don’t want to tell anyone how to live their life.

"I don’t want to tell anyone how to live their life?" I DON'T WANT TO TELL ANYONE HOW TO LIVE THEIR LIFE?" In December of last year she said:

I’m going to speak my mind about any injustice that I see.

Now that there isn't a hashtag to align with Chastain's political and social views, she apparently no longer has any. While having the main platform of "transformative social change" is about as useful, researched, and focused as a Miss America contestant having the platform of "world peace," I almost respect that searing opinion to going from burning bras and taking names to adopting the philosophy of "don't worry, oh, ooh ooh ooh oo-ooh ooh oo-ooh, be happy" in a matter of months. Yes, I realize that in this dichotomy I've set up, Chastain really can't win. And ya know, I'm okay with that.

*Well, it appears that she deleted her transformative social change video. Its replacement will just be Chastain singing "don't worry 'bout a thing, 'cause every little thing gonna be alright."
