For all we know, you could be reading this post on mobile using your iPhone or Android-powered device, providing further verification on the conclusions that Jumptap made in a recent study. In fact, their data would say that I would be 91% accurate, provided that you're actually on mobile in the first place, that is.

Jumptap is one of the world's foremost leaders in targeted mobile advertising. That said, you'd understand why they'd conduct studies like this because it has a lot to do with their business. The firm released its February MobileSTAT data recently, but the fact that the Android and iPhone are hogging up a large bulk of the mobile OS market share isn't exactly surprising.

This data was gathered based on Jumptap's user base of approximately 95 million for the month of January. Android soared to 58.8 percent while the iPhone claimed 32.2 percent of the market share. These numbers are massive, compared to BlackBerry's paltry 6.7 percent. Jumptap's data jives with one of Nielsen's recent reports, which revealed that roughly 89 percent of smartphones that were acquired in the last quarter of 2011 were either powered by Android or iOS.

Paran Johar, who is Jumptap's Chief Marketing Officer, stressed the importance of this data especially for publishers and developers.

"With Google activating 850,000 mobile devices daily, it's no surprise that Android has continued to outpace every other OS on the market. What advertisers should take away from this data is the importance of advertising cross-platform. Both the Android and iOS operating systems continue to grow while the remaining competitors represent only a fraction of the market."
