Cyber criminals are stooping on an all-new low in this recently discovered email scam that targets you and your relationship (if you have or had one, that is.) It also puts the spotlight on your girlfriend and her naked pictures--and if you did a double take on that last phrase because they actually do exist, then by all means, keep on reading.

Scam emails that claim that someone has somehow gotten their hands on your lady's nude photos are currently making the rounds, and they aren't pretty--mainly for the reason that they're being sent with an attachment labeled as 'Photo.ZIP' that has been infected with malware.

Security experts from Sophos report having intercepted a number of emails that are spreading the file with the malware identified as Mal/EncPk-NS and Troj/Zbot-CCH.

The emails use a series of subjects such as:

  • These pictures should be taken down immediately.
  • You can't say I haven't warned you now enjoy the consequences.
  • The police investigation is under way now.
  • You'll be really sorry about what you have done.
  • The criminal investigation agains you has started.
  • Grave privacy violation is a serious thing.

These subjects sound pretty alarming, which might cause concerned users to open them right away and click on to that attachment without any second thoughts.

An example of an email message from this scam, with a subject that reads 'Lets put this behind us once and for all' reads:

I know you broke into my email.Message body: Hate to bother you <name>I have a proof that you broke into my email and stole my private photos and financial information. It can be clearly seen in the files attached to this message. If you don't respond within 48 hours I will have to report you.

If you get an email that sounds remotely like these, hit delete and tell your friends and network to do the same. Remember, don't download or open email attachments from shady senders or if the message that accompanies them doesn't sound legit.
