Have you ever wondered how long you have to wait before you can use a horrible tragedy that forever scarred an entire nation for your own financial gain?

Well, if you ask the folks over at Marvel and 20th Century Fox, they'd probably say 50 years is long enough. After all, not one week after the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, they've launched a viral marketing campaign that's attempting to use the spike in public interest in the assassination as a way to get people talking about the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The crux of the campaign is a website called The Bent Bullet, which looks like any other JFK assassination conspiracy site—except that the grammar is impeccable and the theory discussed posits that the mutant supervillain Magneto used his magnetic powers to bend the path of the bullets fired by Lee Harvey Oswalt.

Why? Well, that's a long story. I'll let you read it yourself.

The main takeaway here is that, apparently, the assassination of JFK will play some role in the upcoming X-Men film, and they're totally using this to create hype.

I can't wait to see how they use 9/11 to sell stuff 40 years from now!

X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters May 23, 2014.
