The Mobile World Congress 2012 has officially wrapped up, leaving tech and mobile enthusiasts still reeling from all the news, reveals, and announcements that were made during the trade show. Some manufacturers chose to reveal some of their newest handsets prior to the Mobile Congress, like LG who announced the L3, L5, and L7 as well as the Optimus 4X HD before the show.

One of the highlights from the congress was Huawei's unveiling of the mobile device that they've dubbed as the "world's fastest smartphone," the Ascend D Quad.

The Ascend D is powered by Huawei's K3V2 quad-core and a 1.2GHz/1.5GHz processor. It's extremely compact as well, as it measures just 64mm across and 8.9mm thick. The device also features Huawei's proprietary power management system which claims to provide up to 30% in energy savings.

Richard Yu, Chairman of Huawei Device, says that the device was a product from the top demands made by mobile users about the features that they wanted in a smartphone.

"We've listened to people's top demands from smartphones: speed, long-battery life, high quality visual and audio capabilities, and a compact, lightweight handset. The Huawei Ascend D quad exceeds these expectations. In January at the Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas, we achieved a world record for the world's slimmest smartphone with the Huawei Ascend P1 S. We are proud to once again introduce a world-first at the 2012 Mobile World Congress with the Ascend D quad, the fastest smartphone."

The Ascend D is equipped with a 4.5-inch 720P high definition touchscreen and a powerful 32-bit true color graphic processor. It also packs in Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound and Audience earSmartâ„¢ voice technology to make sure that audiophiles who get the phone won't be disappointed.

Huawei's Ascend D quad series will be available in China, Australia, Europe, Asia-Pacific, North and South America, and the Middle East in Q2 2012. Meanwhile, the Ascend D1 will be shipping out to the above markets starting April 2012.
