Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan are back at it, and this time, they're solving murders between rounds of early bird specials. The iconic duo is starring together once again, this time in The Thursday Murder Club, Netflix’s upcoming mystery comedy that’s giving us Murder, She Wrote energy with a heavy pour of dry British wit and some seriously legendary casting.
Based on Richard Osman’s international bestselling novel, The Thursday Murder Club follows four spirited retirees, Elizabeth (Mirren), Ron (Brosnan), Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley), and Joyce (Celia Imrie), who kill time by investigating old unsolved murders from the comfort of their cozy retirement village. That is, until a real-life dead body turns up and things get unexpectedly serious.
And if you’re thinking, “Wait, weren’t Mirren and Brosnan just shooting guns and throwing around cockney slang together?”, you’re not wrong. The pair is also starring in Mobland, a Guy Ritchie directed crime drama over at Paramount, proving that these two have the kind of screen chemistry that can thrive in both back-alley shootouts and retirement home drawing rooms.
Now if you'll excuse us, we suddenly feel the urge to knit a sweater, sip some Earl Grey, and solve a cold case.
