HBO did more than just stumble upon a hit by taking George R. R. Martin's book series to the silver screen. The television debut of Game of Thrones was impressive, racking awards nominations and winning several for its first season. The second season of the show just premiered last April 1st but HBO didn't wait very long before announcing that the show will be picked up and renewed for a third season.

Fans of GOT, it's time to rejoice!

Early data shows that Game of Thrones premiered to a gross audience of 8.3 million viewers and is set on surpassing the season one average of 9.3 million viewers per episode.

Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss raised our expectations for the second season - and then surpassed them. We are thrilled by all the viewer and media support we've received for the series, and can't wait to see what Dan and David have in store for next season.
