When I was a kid growing up in the 80's there was one monster that haunted my nightmares more than anyone: Freddy Krueger of A Nightmare on Elm Street. It's not surprising. He was a) a child killer b) had knives for fingers and c) looks like a crispy pork rind. Add to that Robert Englund's amazing performance and you've got something terrifying. I wasn't allowed to see Freddy's movies but I had friends whose parents weren't as on top of stuff. I look at these movies now and they seem comical and not that scary at all. But kids are susceptible to suggestion. Still, I have a special place in my heart for Freddy. He's like a favorite uncle, one that murders teens in their sleep, but whatever.
