Last Night on The OC: Teenage Girls Stay Home All Alone and Have Sex
There's really not much gossip going on today, so I thought I'd write about last night's episode of The O.C., which, if you think about it, presented some pretty weird comments on America's parenting of teenage girls.
Of course, it's hard to understand without having actually seen the footage, so here's a video of the last scene in the episode, complete with Marissa (Micsha Barton) down to her bra, and some highly suggestive background music...

Overall, it was a really good episode, I thought. Seth and Summer (Rachel Bilson) had relationship trouble, Ryan got into another fight (albeit off-screen), and Sandy had his own moral dilemma to deal with. The banter was tight, and even the annoying Taylor Townsend added some good one-liners.
But there was a weird feeling permeating the whole episode. I couldn't quite place it at first, but as the show went on, it became clear: None of the teenage girls on the show (save Taylor) had any form of parental supervision whatsoever.
Marissa's mom is on a cruise with Summer's dad, and both their other parents have long since gone bye-bye (actually, I don't think we've ever really seen Summer's step mom on the show). If that wasn't enough, though, Marissa is all alone in a trailer park. Even she was freaked out, which lead her to stay at Matt's appartment, more or less sealing the deal to get him fired from Sandy's company. Summer, meanwhile, is in this huge house where, apparently, anyone can enter at will (I suppose it would be logical to assume there is a maid, or something, but even Summer was surprised when Taylor came in without even ringing the doorbell).
Then there's Ryan's new girl, Sadie (who kinda bugs me). First of all, how old is this chick supposed to be? She's dating Ryan now, but does she go to school, college, what? All we ever see her do is drywall her dead cousin's old house. How many teenage girls do you know that do home remodelling in their spare time?
Lastly, we have the reemergence of Jess, the girl who hooked up with Ryan's brother Tre after being saved from overdosing and drowning in a pool. It seems like she may be in college, but that wasn't really clear, since I thought she was in Ryan and Seth's grade. Regardless, she's been staying in Vegas with Tre the past few months, and has now returned to her big empty house in Orange County. That's right, her father is on business in Japan, and her mother is at "the spa." Naturally, she feels scared and alone, and baits Ryan into coming to her rescue at another mega house party, where he gets into that previously mentioned off-screen fight.
And to cap it all off, how does the show end? Why with all the main characters having sex in their empty houses (or trailers). Seth and Summer get all Tantric, while Ryan and Sadie do it under the unfluence of paint fumes. And then there's Marissa, who hooks up with the ever sketchy Volchok. And man do they go at it.
Is this really how the producers of The OC want to portray life to the teenage girls of America? If so, I don't really have a problem with that...

i love that show, i thought it was funny during those scenes but overall the show was awsome, and i hope that summer and marissa dont end up fighting all the time, like it showed on wats coming up on the next episode.thanz

I like ryan's new girlfriend sadie, and its interesting to see marissa with that volchek guy, but alot of teh ideas are getting stale and alot of the story liens the season haven't been that interesting, e.g. seth smokign pot because he ahd to much stress over college. speaking of college next season, i am sure something will probably happen where they all stay in california together much like beverly hills did.

Sadie is hot as hell. I'd take her any day over Marissa, but that's just because I'm a sucker for the brown hair/brown eyes look. Marissa's drama is probably the stalest aspect of the show. She's become so whiny and such a "tortured" soul that, personally?, I don't give a crap what happens to her. I'm genuinely rooting for Ryan to get his act together and get after Sadie. And judging by the final scene, it looks like he's headed in the right direction. Seth and Summer are just dorks to laugh at, and Marissa can go bone Creepy Dude all she wants for all I care.
Kirsten will always be the hottest woman on the show anyway, so who cares?

Jess is Nikki Griffin and had a small role in Dukes of Hazzard. If you watch the deleted scenes she takes her top off.

Marissa and Ryan are annoying together, Sadie is just completely likable, and if I swung that way, man, cuz yeah, she's really pretty. That new dude after Marissa IS creepy, but he's also the hottest guy, like ever. DAMN! I kept asking myself thruout the episode, "So what if he's a stalker? Are you seeing him? HELLO?! How can you tell him to get lost? TAKE HIM NOW!" So needless to say, I was quite pleased when she did. And Seth and Summer? Classic. If they ever break up, I will stop watching the show.

I am happy to say that I have never watched an episode of that show, but I had to comment because I so have the bra that Mischa Barton is wearing in those pictures! that's pretty classic.

Sadie is damn ugly. 'least they covered the mole on her face that she had in previous episodes.
BTW - Ryan asked Jess about USC so I'm assuming she's a freshman there.

i'm happy volchok is getting more screen time, because that guy is hot! but how much of a betrayal of johnny is that?! marissa sleeping with his enemy? even though marissa and johnny never went beyond friends, they clearly had feelings for each other (or so i thought), so her being with volchok undermines that whole storyline... ah well, who am i to complain? anything with Cam Gigandet is fine by me.. :D

What a stupid, predictable idiotic show...such waste of anyones time.let me now tell you the basic plot of EVERY episode:
1)Random stranger from ryans past shows up to bring a little more "badass" to the oc as they proceed to tell him how hes still from the wrong side of the tracks and hasnt changed/and bring trouble in some sexual shape or form.
2) Sandy battles "moral issues"
3) Summer and Cohen swap witty remarks
4) Marissa walks around awkwardly...all 6 feet and 100 pounds of her-Still learning how to do this crazy "acting thing"
5) "Quick fights" ensue...every time involving ryan. A couple punches are thrown, not lasting more than 30 seconds before ryan does the "right thing" and teaches them a valuable lesson by saying something along the lines of "listen man, i dont wanna fight you...get your act straight" and then the fight is done.
6)The only varying aspects are in the life of the adults, yet still somewhat predictable with affairs, money issues..and characters who have been off'd who still keep coming back.
7) Guest appearances from unknown actors/actresses
8) At least 2 showings of girls in bikinis (by the way the girls who show up from ryans past seem to love showing up randomly in bikins/scantily clad)
9)Lots of teens having sex. Im thinking unprotected.
and finally,
10) Marissas little sister showing up at the door letting the world know, "I HAVE BOOOOOBS!!"

Volchek or Kolchak or whatever the hell his name is, is beyond sketchy--but it kind of looks like he's trying to do some sort of "sensitive" thing now. Actually, he and Marissa are a good fit. They can be sketchy and annoying together.
I hated the hell out of Sadie until Jess showed up and reminded me of just how obnoxious girls on this show can be.
Volchek=poor man's Brad Pitt (really, really poor man)

OMG!! i LOV3 THE O.C itz the BEST SHOW EV3RR! Lol. Kaii well the last few minz of thiz episode were interesting. OMG!! that Kevin volchok guy iz SOO sexy like wow!. marizza and volchok. look gewd and sadie and ryan. look okay.. BUT.. wow kevin volchok ISS SOO HAWTT! my GOSH !LMAO oh and wat happend to ryanz BRO hez cute!!. BUT! i wonderr wat ryan do widd jess. SO interezting cant wait till the next episode.

This is actually the first time I've ever seen this show (because I boycott all mainstream shit) and I was thinking the exact same thing. All of the actors/actresses (actually in their 20's) are supposed to be playing 16-18 year olds and doing nothing but fighting & screwing. This is why I hate these shows and will never watch them again: America is too fucking concerned with putting shit that is entertaining on television than they are putting on shit that addresses more intellectual topics.

FYI the suggestive song playing during that sequence is a rather unflattering and badly done cover of a great song--"Lover I Don't Have to Love", by Bright Eyes. Available on the album "Lifted", or at your local online music store, I'm sure.

I saw Mischa out in L.A. last nite and she seemed very sweet. My friend kept joking that she was the dead girl under the bed in "The Sixth Sense." Hilarious! Deets on Mischa's night out here ...

Umm. ppl to address you O.C iz actually a pretty good show.. Thats not what they do 24/7. fight, sex, drugs. Thats not true. becuz they try to stay away from too much of it.and plz in california. they do shit worse then that. i do agree wid the kids watchin it and how the parents should know better but the parentz are responsable for wat their kids watch .and if itz a good show. then alot ppl will watch. and PLUS noONEz gonna watch a show about Teenagers and havin school problems about homework. BCUZ .hard to say bUT the sex and drugs and fighting is interesting.( and in our american society SEX SELLS ppl its not (im not a big fan of it, especially wid stars they disgust me ). but in shows like the O.c it will. I love how someone upthread makes fun of the show saying that it's a waste of time, yet they still know the plotline for "EVERY" episode. Interesting...
Anyway, I thought it was a good episode. We finally got to see more Ryan time, and that's never a bad thing. Especially after all the Marissa time as of late. For some reason last season got better around this time, and it lookslike the same thing is happening this year.

i like the oc, always have, and i was really liking this season until the past couple of episodes.
i am so sick of "random guy" interrupting ryan and marissa turning it into big drama, then random guy disappearing/dying, only to have ryan hook up with "random girl". it's always the same shit.
it is the same damn plot line, over and over and over. luke, ryan, oliver, ryan, yard worker boy, ryan, alex (they threw in a girl with a boy's name this time around), ryan, johnny, ryan, volcheck, blah blah blah
can't marissa keep her damn ugly twat in her pants?

The show is getting much better now. I like the fact that Ryan and Marissa broke up, they need somet time apart. Their relationship has not been the best lately.
I like Sadie, she is cool, sweet and kind and most importantly she makes hi laugh.
I like Volchok most of all, he is my favourite charcter... he is also very hot. They are a hot couples. I wish they could make Volchok a regular cast member because I think they would have a great storyline with him in the show.
