I don't know if it was all planned from the get-go, but all the rumours and conjecture regarding the next James Bond actor, were for naught.

It's still bond, and despite what some may say, I think it always was, and this was all just a way to stir up publicity.

Dame Judi Dench, who M, gave Ananova the scoop:

Despite the fact that everyone on the face of the earth has been tested as his possible replacement, Pierce will be doing it again.
