MTV.com reports that Mandy Moore will be costarring in a new movie writen and directed by Paul Weitz, the director of American Pie, entitled American Dreamz. The movie, which also stars Chris Klein from American Pie, is a satire of the world surrounding reality TV show American Idol. Here's how Klein describes the film:
"[In the film], 'American Idol' is so popular that, for ratings, the president of the United States is gonna be a celebrity judge in the finals," Klein said of the concept behind the film, in theaters next year. "I play William Williams, who gets dumped by a contestant on the show, and I decide my life has no meaning, so I go to Iraq only to get injured and come back. And the ex-girlfriend's new agent decides that it's wonderful dramatic television to have a war-hero boyfriend cheer for her in the audience to get voters on her side. Not only that, the mujahedeen [terrorists] figure out a way to get a suicide bomber in the finals, so that he can blow up the president."
Mandy Moore will probably be playing an American Idol contestant, which is a bit apropos, considering she started her career as one of those manufactured teen pop stars.
