Jessica Simpson Finally Shuts Up

So, I have to say, if there's one thing worse than a new Jessica Simpson album, it's got to be Jessica Simpson talking about her new album. All the press rounds and interviews, with their staged anecdotes, and "probing" questions like "is this or that song really about Nick?" and "when does the album come out?" are the most inane events ever.

Sure, you might get the odd nugget of sincerity, which usually amounts to Jessica going off script, and stumbling to answer such tough questions as "what's the name of the album?" but all that ever really happens is they pimp the new release until you're sick of it, then they play whatever cookie-cutter single happened to be squeezed out of the Play-Doh music machine first.

Thankfully, none of that is happening this time, at least not for a few days, anyway. Why not? Well, according to E! Online, Jessica Simpson has lost her voice, leading to the cancellation of all her major press events, on the eve of her album release.

Under doctor's orders, Simpson was forced to cancel dates on Today, Total Request Live and The Late Show with David Letterman. Instead, the In This Skin singer flew to New York a day earlier than planned and met with a voice specialist.

"She's on total vocal rest and some of her appearances have been delayed," Simpson's rep, Rob Shuter, confirmed.

A friend of the Teen Choice Award winner for Movie Breakout told In Touch that Simpson, who's been communicating with people via notepad and pen, was feeling physically okay but was bummed about the bad timing.

Well, at least we know that Jessica Simpson can write. Of course, all this really means is that we're just delaying the inevitable. But for the time being, listen hard, and you just might hear it: The sound of Jessica Simpson not saying stupid things. Silence is golden, and here's hoping her new album won't be.
