While not the greatest thing since sliced bread, as some people have convinced themselves, Netflix's Stranger Things is one of the best shows to parlay 80s nostalgia into an actual storyline rather than just relying on "Hey remember this thing" contrivances. The highly anticipated third season of the supernatural series is currently in production and just ahead of this week's San Diego Comic Con, the show's creators have released our first look at the upcoming season!
This will be a trip down memory lane for those of you who grew up in the era when shopping malls were king. There's a Waldenbooks, a Sam Goody, Hot Dog on a Stick, but I didn't spot a KB-Toys in there anywhere. I did spot stupid Jean-Ralphio Jr. working at the ice cream parlor though. Glad he's back.
Now, as you might have noticed, the last thing in the teaser says "Coming Next Summer" which may be an indication that we'll have to wait another year before the residents of Hawkins, IN are back on our screens. I'm sure the wait is going to be painful for the die hard fans, but personally I think they're smart to take their time and get it right, rather than just rush out a third season in under three years.
Hopefully we'll get a definitive answer at Comic Con this week, but don't hold your breath for Season 3... unless you really, really want to.
