We told you last week about a disturbing story in which people dressed like clowns tried to lure kids in an apartment complex in Greenboro, South Carolina into the woods with promises of money. Police investigated the sightings by several children and adults who say they say these fiends lurking around the complex and a nearby playground. Now these clowns have spread to Winston-Salem in neighboring North Carolina. Witnesses describe a man in a "scary clown mask, red curly wig, yellow dotted shirt, blue clown pants and clown shoes" trying to get children to follow him into a nearby woods with treats. One resident chased the dude into the woods with a machete before he disappeared. Cops are baffled by the events. What is unclear is whether it is the work of a copycat clown or whether they are all part of some evil clown coven targeting kids. The cops in Greenboro warn against copycats,

"Although it is lawful to dress as a clown, given the heightened tensions about these entertainers, officials are discouraging ‘copycat’ behavior by individuals who may find it humorous to mimic suspicious behavior. Copycats unnecessarily alarm the public and place an unnecessary drain on police resources.”

I can't imagine a worse thing than clowns trying to abduct children. That's some John Wayne Gacy type crap. I hope they don't come to New York. Actually, I do. This city wouldn't put up with that crap. Those clowns would get shanked prison style.
