Hollywood has an obsession with recreational drugs. Also, pretending they have nothing to do with premature celebrity deaths. Mama Cass choked on a ham sandwich. The rest on their own vomit.

It's unclear if the media's complicity whitewashing drug use as a cause of death in celebrity obit stories is a result of some warped sense of kindness to famous person's legacy, or merely a group think on keeping The Man from coming after their own stash.

Carrie Fisher's death late last year was attributed to a heart attack aboard a transatlantic flight from London to Los Angeles. The cardiac arrest at 35,000 feet left her in a coma and shortly thereafter, deceased. Stories abounded of her heart condition, later amended to include her sleep apnea which may have contributed to the attack. Not particularly mentioned was Fisher's long history of drug use. Both the prescribed kind in relation to her mental illness, and the recreational and self-medicating kind. Like George Michael died of fatty liver and Prince of a bad cold.

Ultimately, the autopsy always comes out. It's how we roll in the U.S.. Fisher's toxicology showed signs of recent consumption of ecstasy, heroin, and cocaine. That can't be good for sleep apnea. Or just being sixty and partying like you're twenty at an EDM rave.

Fisher's daughter Billie Lourd appended the official family statement on Fisher's death to include a public health PSA on drugs and mental health. Prepared. They had to know what the autopsy was going to show.

It's nobody's business what people stick in their bodies. It is everybody's business when the press lies about how people die in complete contradiction to what Billie Lourd hoped people would take away from her mother's unnecessary early death. Drugs will fuck you up, often to the point of death. Honesty would seem to be the most educational policy. Journalism is so failed as a modern trade that it's impossible to figure out why they fail from instance to instance.
