‘Blade Runner 2049’ Featurette Shows Off Practical Effects (VIDEO)

It's hard to argue that Blade Runner is the most influential science fiction film of the last forty years. Sure, you could mount an argument for a handful of other films, but the fingerprints of Blade Runner's design elements are all over virtually every sci-fi film that has been made since its release 35 years ago.

One of the things that really set the film apart was its incredible use of practical effects, and thankfully director Denis Villeneuve, producer Ridley Scott, and cinematographer Roger Deakins all know this and intend to carry that forward to their follow-up, Blade Runner 2049. This new featurette shows off just how much practical visual effects work is going in to recreating this world. 

The more I see from this film, the more I must admit that it's becoming my most anticipated film of the fall season, which is impressive considering that Jared Leto appears to have a prominent role in the film. If you saw Villeneuve's Arrival last year, you know that he's more or less the perfect choice to usher the past into the future of sci-fi filmmaking. I think I'm not alone in saying that October 6 can't get here soon enough. Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos.
