If I wanted to watch self absorbed physical manifestations of teenage angst with two legs cover popular songs I could do it for free on Youtube. But Universal Pictures decided in order to make money from distributing content that you could already view for free they would add a storyline with some sex appeal and voila, over $100 million in sales worldwide. Of course this upset actress Anna Kendrick who just wanted to deliver wholesome visuals for what is basically the college version of a Kidz Bop album.

In a new interview with Harper's Bazaar, actress Anna Kendrick claims her Pitch Perfect franchise has succeeded because "audiences are interested in seeing a movie of misfits and girls of different shapes and sizes."

Despite that advancement, Kendrick said there was pressure on her and her co-stars to wear sexier outfits to entice viewers.

"It's funny — whenever we do the wardrobe fittings I feel like we get notes from the top saying they should be tighter and sexier and show more skin," she said. "And I'm like, that's not why people are coming to see the movie. They definitely aren't showing up because of our sex appeal."

That said, Kendrick believes the tide is turning in Hollywood after the fallout of the Harvey Weinstein scandal as well as in the greater culture.

When you’re involved in Hollywood you’re always expected to go above and beyond. Honestly telling Anna she should sex it up when it came to her wardrobe was getting off light when compared to the propositions so many other women were offered. She could have been asked by a higher up to physically show them just how bad she wanted to be in the movie. But the rapey climate of casting is changing. All it takes is an accusation for men to lose millions and that has everyone in the film industry is walking on eggshells. So at least for now there won’t be any suggestions of making the main actress’ dress shorter until history and Hollywood decides to repeat itself.
