With the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rebels, and other Disney owned Star Wars properties, ABC is in talks to develop a live action Star Wars TV show. There had been rumors of SW shows since before George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney a few years back but nothing ever came of it. They have had success as animated series like Rebels and The Clone Wars, but never anything live action. ABC, which is also owned by Disney, is talking to the Lucasfilm people about a show. Channing Dungey, head of ABC entertainment said this to Entertainment Weekly,

“Oh, as a fan, I would absolutely love to say ‘Yes. The conversations with Lucas, we have had conversations with them and will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming.”

But what would the show be? What I hope they do is steer clear of the whole Jedi thing explicitly and delve into the other worlds like the smugglers, bounty hunters, and other ruffians. I think it would make for a more compelling show. Space wizards are cool up to a point, and there can certainly be some of that, but I think one of the things that made the prequels so unappealing is that it was all Jedi stuff. Basically, I'd like to see a show about the denizens of the cantina scene from the first movie.
