Fox Announces ‘Bob’s Burgers’ Movie For Summer 2020

In a move that will make you wonder if the show may have run its course, Fox announced on Wednesday that it would be bringing primetime animated series Bob's Burgers to the big screen in 2020. The show just won an Emmy last month for Best Animated Series, its second after winning the honor for the first time in 2014.

According to Deadline, series creator Loren Bouchard is "thrilled" to bring his creation to the big screen, but in typical fashion, sets himself up to fail...

“We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s – but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!”

I like that he's aware of the limitations of expanding an animated television program to feature length. Bob's Burgers has done its fair share of two-parters, but a movie is another animal entirely. The creative team and the voice cast are great, and I can't wait to see what this movie ends up looking like, but color me nervous with anticipation. Bob's Burgers: The Movie—or whatever it ends up being called—opens on July 17, 2020, but again, no pressure.
