Sam Rockwell and Christian Bale Playing Bush and Cheney in New Movie

After spending some time yesterday extolling the many virtues of Sam Rockwell, one of the best bits of casting news I've heard in some time came down the pike. It seems the Adam McKay was serious about making that Dick Cheney biopic starring Christian Bale as the former Vice President, because Rockwell has now been cast to play the man that led the ticket which took Cheney to the White House: George W. Bush.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Rockwell will be joining Bale, Amy Adams, Steve Carell, and Bill Pullman in the latest film from McKay after he transitioned from comedies like Anchorman and Step Brothers to Oscar-winner with 2015's The Big Short. I imagine this will be in the same vein as the latter rather than the former. Carell is playing for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Adams is playing Cheney's wife Lynne.

No word on who Bill Pullman's playing, but my money's on former Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz as that would be some spot-on casting. Hell, maybe he'll be playing his character from Independence Day. That'd be a lot of fun, making this a shared universe with that movie. Seriously though, Rockwell as Bush is inspired casting, particularly if you saw him as Zaphod in 2005's Hitchhiker's Guide. That was basically a Bush impression anyway, so he'll be perfect in this.
