James Franco Pretends to Be a Bad Actor in ‘The Disaster Artist’ Trailer (VIDEO)

James Franco has built his entire career on being mysterious, sexually fluid, and unnecessarily artsy. It's only fitting, then, that for his next role, he's playing one of the worst actors of all time: Tommy Wiseau. Franco is directing and starring in The Disaster Artist, an adaptation of Wiseau's quest to make his debut feature film, The Room.

If you've never heard of Wiseau or The Room, allow me to be the first to welcome you into a glorious fraternity of schadenfreude. The Room is a 2003 film that has become the gold standard in bad movies over the last decade and a half, and has amassed a cult following to rival Rocky Horror. Greg Sestero, the film's co-star—and perhaps the only person on earth who has gone out of his way to portray Wiseau in a somewhat sympathetic light—released his book "The Disaster Artist" in 2013, chronicling the monumentally frustrating production of The Room. Franco optioned the book soon after and is bringing his adaptation of the book to life this December.

James' brother Dave is playing Sestero, and his usual gang of cronies like Seth Rogen are filling out the supporting cast, with The Hunger Games' Josh Hutcherson stepping into the role of fan favorite Philip Haldiman, a.k.a. Denny. If you've never seen The Room, I would urge you to check it out at one of the many midnight screenings it has at various theaters throughout the country every weekend, as words really can't do it justice. There's really no way to prepare yourself for just how bad it is, and it'll help you appreciate The Disaster Artist on a whole other level when it gets released on December 8.
