By this time, the Dark Souls fans among you Ego-gamers have probably spent a whole lot of time with Dark Souls 3. You’ve cursed and shat your pants at the most dastardly and bastardly of bosses (screw you, Nameless King), you’ve tried out a couple different character builds, a little PVP, all of that good stuff.
You’ve also probably kept one ogling eye firmly on Ashes of Ariandel, the first of two DLC expansions coming to the game. I know I have.
I especially like the look of this because it’s adding a little meat to one of the sometimes neglected areas of the game: multiplayer. Oftentimes, your typical Souls rage, despair and crying-in-the-corner-in-a-puddle-of-your-own-defeated-piss moments have been singleplayer only. You’ll see messages from other players designed to troll and/or kill you, and be invaded at the worst possible time by some asshat, but that’s as far as the multiplayer experience has gone.
With Ashes of Ariandel, we’re getting a dedicated PVP area, and even battles betwixt teams of up to three guys and gals. Co-op has never been much of a thing, beyond summoning help for bosses that have been crushing your asscheeks into spam for three hours, so this is quite novel.
We’ve seen dedicated duel arenas in the series before, but we’re expanding all that sort of thing now. It’ll be interesting to see how this takes off, once the DLC hits on October 25. Until then, have a teaser:
