'Doom' Has A Couple Multiplayer Tricks Up Its Sleeve

null  Who plays FPS titles for the campaign? The same guy who buys ‘gentleman’s publications’ for the articles. Which is to say, no bastard. Ever. You can play through the single player levels, sure, but that’s not where the meat of the genre lies. You dump that BS in the ocean like a radioactive ex-girlfriend and jump into the multiplayer.  

Since the days when split-screen was the only option (ah, Timesplitters, you sexy thing), multiplayer guntastic has been where it’s at. So you’d better believe that the rebooted daddy of the FPS, Doom, has you covered in that area. And then some.

When I think of the classic title, I’ll admit, it is the single player that comes to mind. There’s something about good ol’ fashioned mano-a-cacodemono action. We’ll be getting plenty of that, natch, but there’s also more going on here. On the multi side of things, there’ll be some modes that adhere to genre standards while still adding a smear of that demonic Doomtastic that only id Software can deliver. Let’s take a closer ogle at them.

Details on six different modes of play have been revealed. As Polygon reports, we’re talking Soul Harvest (collect icons from downed enemies and prevent those of your allies from being harvested), Freeze Tag (‘killed’ players are frozen solid and can be revived by teammates, first team who isn’t all icepops wins), Team Deathmatch, Domination (fairly standard king of the hill), Clan Arena (no respawns, regen or pickups) and Warpath (king of the hill-ish again, but with more hazards and a moving area).
