Gaming’s Whacked Out Week: Crazy Couple Freeze Their Asses Off for a PS4; are ‘Heroes’ Apparently

To be a hero, you’ve got to do something pretty ball-bustingly special. You’ve got to stop a baby carriage rolling onto the highway, a nanosecond before the urchin inside takes several tons of speeding SUV to the face. Or rescue someone’s gerbil from a burning building. Or be Spider-Man. Those are the criteria, right there.

Being an internet hero, meanwhile, needs only extreme nerdiness. Or crazyass-iness. Bonus points if you can pull off both, twice over, like the joint stars of today’s Whacked Out Week.

Hong Suk Min and his wife are two gameaholics from South Korea. In their region, PlayStation 4 won’t launch until December 17, and they’re desperate to get their game on Sony style. So much so, they’ve been camped outside their local gameatorium since Wednesday. In sub-zero temperatures.

They’re taking turns to queue (although ‘queue’ may not be the word, when no other effer is crazy enough to be there yet), and Kotaku reports that they are fully equipped with, “…a tent, two hundred hand warmers, twenty space blankets, three regular blankets, a lantern, and cold medicine in case they fall ill.”

Two hundred hand warmers, we can all agree, is a whole damn lot of hand warmers. Will their hands be cold? They will not.

This whole sorry affair has indeed made them internet heroes. South Korean games media is clamoring for interviews, and the local branch of Sony has provided heating and a larger tent for the pair. It all brings one of our ol’ ma’s favorite phrases to mind: don’t, it only encourages them.

Hong will be back to hold vigil again at the Xbox One launch, because he’s the kind of renegade badass who will not and cannot be stopped. For more on this, hit Kotaku.
