Legendary Nintendo Voice-Man Charles Martinet And Sexy Super Mario Cosplay? It Must Be World Voice Day! Which, Apparently, It Is

Yes indeed. Because you demand to know more about craptastic and obscure events on the calendar (Hey there, last week’s Draw a Bird Day!) that no bastard has ever heard of, here’s another: April 16 is World Voice Day.

You are thrilled by this news. Show us your ‘thrilled’ faces. (That looks more like constipation, but it’ll have to suffice. We’re in a hurry, and getting hazardously close to the actual central point of this article. Strap yourselves in, guys).

This business, then, is “…a worldwide annual event devoted to the celebration of the phenomenon of voice… The aim is to demonstrate the enormous importance of the voice in our daily life, as a tool of communication, and as an application of a large number of sciences, such as physics, psychology, phonetics, art, and biology.” (-world-voice-day.org). Which is, let’s be frank, nothing we give a rat’s ass about. (“Shit to that,” confirmed Frank himself. Whoever he is). So let’s inject a little gamer snark and piss-takery to proceedings.

World Voice Day 1

In the Gamingverse, ‘voice’ means but one thing: the lofty likes of David Hayter’s cruising through the desert for several years with a mouth as dry as a kangaroo’s sweaty gonads growly Solid Snake voice. Jennifer Hale and her prolific voice-acting record. And so forth. That was, we’ll concede, three things; let’s not get pernickety, though, because here’s the fourth -and most important- thing: Charles Martinet.

World Voice Day 2Surely the most iconic actor in the field, this guy has been the voice of Mario since one was first bestowed upon him (1995 or so). Also in his repertoire are Mushroom Kingdom regulars Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, their ever-infuriating baby counterparts, that huge-ass angry frog thing from Super Mario Bros. 2, some other mutato-freaks making cameo appearances, and more. That adds up to more half-witted woohoos and it’s a-mes than this poor bastard could shake his now aged 57 and tiring of these shenanigans righteous middle finger at. With endless promotional shenanigans to do as the inane, high-pitched hero, the fact that Martinet hasn’t gone postal -even once- is admirable.

Do you want more of Mr. Martinet? Well, no. But it’s here nonetheless, in the form of some shameless adverti-plugging for something or other. Behold:

For the rest of us, Meagan Marie’s micro-skirted tribute to the great man (photography by Stokes Photo) which adorns this page should be all the celebrating that World Voice Day needs.
