This Disney Animated Short Will Make You Nostalgic For Your Old Disney Adventures Magazines (VIDEO)

Paperman
Read all about it!

I didn’t see Wreck-It Ralph. The whole animated villain as the protagonist who ends up just wanting to be good just seems overly played out and I think my pop culture reference threshold has already been crested after four Shrek movies and all its spinoffs. But after realizing that Paperman, the black & white animated short you can watch above (now nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short) played before that movie, I kinda wish I had.

Not only is the story sweet enough to turn you into a diabetic, but it looks like the old hand-drawn animation you fell in love with as a kid. The crazy thing is that it’s actually computer created 3D animation that used a new technique to make it look as if it was 2D. Disney’s last 2D animated film to hit theaters was 2009′s The Princess and the Frog, whose underperformance could very well have been the death knell of hand-drawn style animated films.

But with Paperman receiving this kind of attention, and with this new ability to get a crisp, elegant 2D feel without ditching the faster computer systems, maybe there’s some hope left out there. To see how Disney accomplished all this, watch the featurette below.
