It all seemed like a harmless yet derivative prank: a couple of yokels down under on a morning radio show calling up the hospital where Kate Middleton was being treated for acute morning sickness thanks to Prince William spraying his seed inside her royal beefeater. Using a fake voice as the Queen of England, they convinced this nurse, Jacintha Saldanha, a four-year veteran of the hospital, to connect them to the nurses handling Kate’s care in order to learn more about her condition. But as TMZ is reporting the prank somehow got even less amusing (if that was even possible) when the nurse committed suicide. And according to the Daily Mail, Michael and Mel, the DJs at the heart of the scandal, were boasting about the prank as the tragedy unfolded.
There’s a reason why stations like Jack FM have taken over radios lately. The whole ‘wacky and wild’ morning man schtick has gotten pretty old after twenty-five years of every DJ just trying to do a bad Howard Sternimpression. People just want to hear music. They don’t want to hear nurses getting pranked by a country founded by British criminals. And they certainly don’t want to hear about a woman in Sacramento who died from water poisoning in a radio contest to win a Wii by seeing how much water she could drink without going to the bathroom. Enough with the goofy sound effects, stupid nicknames and lame giveaway contests, just play the fucking music.
