Let's face it, video game movies are often really bad. Really, really bad. Awful in fact. Actually, if you have ever found yourself inside a cinema that is showing one of these monstrosities you are officially a moron. But have they actually all been so bad? No, of course not but there just seems to be a lot more duds in this genre than say, any novel adaptations or superhero movies.
Why? Maybe it's because the narrative structure of a video game is effectively different from what makes a cohesive movie. Structure and character development is usually given a back-seat to mythology and creating a world. Or maybe it's because filmmakers just don't give a damn sometimes.
Will Resident Evil : Retribution be another? Well, with Milla Jovovich starring there is enough to keep us distracted even if it is. But here are the great gaming movies from over the last 3 decades that Paul W.S. Anderson's movie will ultimately be compared against.
