Week Four’s Must-See College Football Games
My heart goes out to women across the nation at this time of year. If they want to spend time with their boyfriends or husbands they have to either love football as much as him or make him choose between the game or them. That is not something you want to test unless you really know the answer.
This weekend will be an especially bad weekend for the ladies. Starting with a good game on Friday night this is going to be a great weekend for college football fans. So guys, buy your girl some flowers and tell her you'll see her at church Sunday morning. You've got games to watch.
Friday:
Nick Florence has filled in rather well at Baylor for the departed Heisman trophy winner throwing for over 300 yards a game with seven TDs and only two picks. Kolton Browning isn't half bad for Lousianna-Monroe either averaging just under 325 yards a game with six TDs and just one pick. If you want to watch an aerial assault then do what you can to find this game.
Saturday:
Oregon State at No. 19 UCLA @ 3:30 PM ET: The Bruins have stormed onto the national stage with a strong 3-0 start powered by senior running back Jonathan Franklin and freshman QB Brett Hundley. With 622 yards of offense a game so far they are definitely a forced to be reckoned with.
However, the Oregon State Beavers have already taken down one powerful running back (Wisconsin's Montee Ball) with the No. 2 rushing defense in the country. Chances are good the Bruins will be missing senior guard Jeff Bacca and they have had some trouble protecting the passer as well.
This game looks to have a ton of fireworks in it. Cal has a weak pass defense which Matt Barkley has to be salivating over. Watching Barkley explode could be fun, but I'm hoping to see Cal's Brendan Bigelow do some more damage after last weekend's impressive showing.
No. 18 Michigan at No. 11 Notre Dame @ 7:30 PM ET: Could the Fighting Irish finally be ready to become a national power once again? Will Denard Robinson be able to carve up the No. 18 defense in the nation?
This game is not likely to have a ton of fireworks in it. So far Notre Dame has been leaning on their dominating defense while an efficient offense scores enough to win. They will have their hands full with the electric Denard Robinson, but lucky for the Irish, if they stop Robinson the Wolverines are shot.
Landry Jones might finally be able to discover who his top receiving threat is against K-State and their No. 80 pass defense. If he can't, the team will have to rely on Damien Williams and Dominique Whaley to play keep away from the Wildcats.
No. 10 Clemson at No. 4 Florida State @ 8 PM ET: For the Seminoles to get a chance at the national title they will have to get through a pair of Heisman Trophy candidates in Clemson's Tajh Boyd and DeAndre Hopkins. The QB/WR tandem can be deadly when they are on, and they will have to be to defeat the No. 1 defense in the nation and FSU's Heisman Trophy candidate, QB E.J. Manuel.
The Tigers are pretty good on both sides of the ball, but if they do have one weakness-- it's defending against the run. That could be a problem since the Seminoles are the No. 11 rushing team in the nation. FSU will have a lot on the line too. Should they lose they can say goodbye to their national title hopes, but if they win they will not see serious competition till they play Florida at the end of the regular season.
