There's a whole tidal wave of new screenshots for Halo 4, to go with the ones we dropped on you last week, over at the super official Waypoint. Of all the screens shown the biggest reveal must be The Flood is back. The shot above confirms it and the folks at Waypoint follow up with the description of The Flood in Halo 4 as converted Spartan troops who are relatively more badass than the typical Flood mutants we've seen in earlier Halo games. They're specifically included in War Games (multiplayer).
Since game developers are rarely going to make something in multiplayer that isn't found elsewhere in the game (unless it's something super cool and/or would only make sense in MP) we're going to go ahead and assume that The Flood are included somewhere in the main story mode and/or Spartan Ops. It makes sense to still have the Flood around even though that's the exact scourge of the galaxy that Master Chief supposedly erased last time out in Halo 3. Hell, we thought we'd "finished the fight," as the game's marketing material promised, yet here we are.
In any case, it's looking like we're going to be controlling Flood critters in War Games somehow because simply shooting AI-controlled Flood wouldn't be as fun and wouldn't be a very 2012 thing to do. They look nasty enough that somebody out there will be thrilled to control slimy slobbery parasite mutants. Hit us on Facebook and let us know what you think about the return of the Flood. Is it beating a dead horse or inviting an old favorite back to the Halo party?
