Plants vs Zombies was one of those games that had players hooked for months by simply using an existing concept and tweaking it to make something completely new. The undead tower defense title featured a house that had to be guarded from the approaching zombie hordes with none other than…plants? Yes, it’s strange but it sure as hell worked.
According to a press release by PopCap Games today, the long awaited Plants vs Zombies sequel is finally coming to fruition.
While neither a proper release date or launch platform(s) have been revealed, PopCap has announced that we’ll be seeing the botanical battles continue by late spring 2013.

I’m happy to note that the press release clearly states that the sequel will include ‘a bevy of new features, settings and situations designed to delight the franchise’s tens of millions of fans around the world’. It looks like we’ll be seeing much in the way of expansion on the original. This would seem like a ‘no brainer’, yet so many of these small studio games will just put a new skin on the original and call it a sequel because they know it will sell.
