NCAA Football 13 Gives Us Six Fresh Ways to Player Hate on Matt Barkley (VIDEO)

The Goldenest of Golden Boys Gets Gored

With the arrival of NCAA Football 13, we’re treated to the gameplay tweaks (pass trajectories!) and the annual reshuffling of players on every team featured in the game. It’s still a football video game, after all, so there’s only going to be so much you can change. If you ask EA SPORTS, the players represented in the game are not video game counterparts to real college football players. If you ask anybody who plays NCAA 13 why they’re playing with the Michigan Wolverines, there’s a strong chance they’ll say it’s because Denard Robinson is The Man. And in that dilemma there’s opportunity for us to hate on a player, but not really.

Here at Egotastic world headquarters, we had a debate about how much of a softie Barkley really is for staying at USC another year, as opposed to going pro in the 2012 draft a couple of months back. He comes from a relatively comfortable upbringing so he doesn’t have the reasons to rush into the NFL that a poverty stricken college football player might have. If Barkley stays another year at USC he gets to be the biggest star on the second biggest sports team in the second biggest city in America for one more year and that can lead to a lot of wonderful, fun-loving, scantily-clad adventures. A guy like Barkley doesn’t have a few dozen loved ones and family members depending on him to help out with all of their financial needs so he’s free to screw around for one more year of college that’ll probably be unlike any year of college that any of us has had.

The guy who takes the snaps for USC’s football team is officially “QB#7” in NCAA 13. His ratings as a passer are very high and his height and weight are very similar to real-life USC senior QB, Matt Barkley. So when we showcase USC QB#7 getting pummeled six different ways in a video clip, it’s not really Barkley we’re ridiculing; but you and everybody else knows we’re only doing this because of our need to player hate on Matt Barkley. If you’re feeling bad just appreciate the new and varied tackling animations.

Don’t be afraid. Share this story using the Twitter and Facebook buttons so the player hating can spread like attributed wildfire. In the comments section give us your thoughts on Barkley staying one more year.
