The Amazing Spider-Man has only just hit cinemas over the last couple of hours but the film's director Marc Webb is already discussing potential villains for the sequel. I think it's safe to assume that the film is going to make such a profit that a new film is ordered.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter the filmmaker said that, "I do think it would be tricky to totally invent a major villain, but if I did that it would be The Mime. My contribution would be a villain called The Mime. That's a joke, by the way. A joke."
Oh so it seems like he hasn't actually been thinking about it then. The lying son of a bitch.
However Webb continued stating that, "I think you have to be pretty protective of the canon when it comes to villains. And SpiderMan has a great rogues gallery, so there's a lot to choose from. I wanted to create a universe that works in and of itself for one movie, but I wanted to create a universe that not only can withstand but anticipate future story-lines."
"Movies like this tend to have sequels, ultimately the audience will tell us if they want one. But I kind of thought it was an interesting thing to anticipate those storyline and think about the backstories and how we can parlay those into an ongoing story."
So maybe he has been thinking about it then. Pity, because I quite looking forward to The Mime. For some reason I think Sean Penn would have been the perfect casting choice for it. Maybe not.
