I guess it's obvious by now that Hollywood is tapping into the superhero market, because that's where the big bucks are. If you haven't heard by now, The Amazing Spider-Man reboot has been raking in millions of dollars ever since it opened: grossing $50 million overseas, and $35 million in the US on its opening night. And from that latter figure, $7.5 million was from midnight screenings alone.
The market for superheros is definitely there. With The Dark Knight Rises coming up next month, a rumored Avengers sequel, and Thor 2 and Iron Man 3 hitting in 2013, there's definitely no shortage of movies in this genre.
And Marvel, along with Disney, is looking to add one more to that list: Guardians of the Galaxy.
Rumors about a Guardians of the Galaxy movie have been floating around for quite a while now. But Marvel and Disney, being the teases that they are, have chosen to keep mum on the entire thing, with the latter only announcing that the release date of their unnamed movie in the works was being moved from May 16th to August 1st, 2014.
Now according to Deadline, sources have confirmed that it is indeed Guardians of the Galaxy. We'll also be seeing a lot of Thanos in the movie, who happens to be the grinning purple character that was featured in the short clip that followed the end credits of The Avengers.
Looks like this piece of news came just in time for next week's Comic Con.
