Instead of Piracy Notices, Torrent Sites Get Hit with “We Are Anonymous” Messages

India is cracking down on torrent sites, but not if Anonymous can help it. The hacker group is up to their old antics once again as they hacked into Copyright Labs, India's anti-piracy organization and sent out a different kind of "piracy notification" to domains that were purportedly hosting copyright-protected content.

When media companies first complained, the offending sites were immediately blocked. But the Madras High Court eventually decided to lift the block, and assigned Copyright Labs to contact the site owners and take down the links to the content themselves.

One such site was BitSnoop. But instead of receiving the removal request, they report getting an email along the lines of "We are Anonymous." The message read:

Kudos to SFLC [Software Freedom Law Center] for following it up and trying to find out how the HC order was misused by ISPs and CopyrightLabs.
We are Anonymous, you should have expected us; best of luck sorting thousands of mails.

The email also delivers a virtual slap to the media owners:

Get a life. Nobody watches those [expletive] movies anyway they are flop.
You are hated all over the internet
With enough soap you can blow just about anything.

It turns out that Anonymous hacked into Copyright Labs' automated email system and made it so that it sent the modified emails. Tough.
