Obama Won’t Pay Your Phone Bill (Even If You Voted for Him)

President Barack Obama might be one of the coolest presidents we've ever had (have you seen him singing Carly Rae Jepsen's super-annoying song, 'Call Me Maybe'?), but he's not so cool that he'd actually pay your phone bill for you.

Unfortunately, some folks are still gullible enough to fall for a program called 'The Obama Phone', described as a 'free government cell phone program.' Hey, if such a thing exists, then sign me up, because it definitely sounds too good to be true.

Spammers have spread word of the scam through text messages that include a link to the Obama phone program site. The site is still up online (but we won't be putting the link up, just in case some fools think that it's legit and falls for the scam instead), with welcome text that reads:

The free Obama phone is a program that is meant to help the financially unstable who cannot afford access to a cell phone. Communication should not be limited to people in relation to what they are able to afford.

The free Obama phone is an important program, especially for low income families that would otherwise not have access to basic communications.

To participate in the program and have Obama pay the bill, users are instructed to send their account number to a bank account number. The account balance will initially drop to zero, but the trouble begins a few of days later when the balance plus a $35 bounced check fee is added back to your account.

So ladies and gents, the lesson here is: pay your phone bills yourself because no one else is going to, and remember that nothing in life comes for free so stop trying to take advantage of offers that promise you free stuff, because you're only to get screwed in the end.
