Exclusive Stills from ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Hit

While The Lord of the Rings may have wrapped up back in 2003, there’s still room to tell a couple more stories about the franchise. It’s how J. R. R. Tolkien wrote it, and it’s how it shall be with the upcoming release of the trilogy’s prequel called The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Based on Tolkien’s novel of the same title, the prequel casts the spotlight as Bilbo sets out on a journey to take back the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from a dragon called Smaug. Entertainment Weekly has just released ten new stills from the movie, and things are shaping out pretty well for the movie.

On Baggins, Martin Freeman said: “I don’t think I’m particularly hobbit-y. I do like comfort and I’m quite private, so in those ways, maybe I am.”

Ian McKellen commented on his role as Gandalf as well: “Gandalf is still the same guy [he was in the Lord of the Rings trilogy]. He’s still got the same sense of humor and sense of urgency and concern – all those things that make him interesting.”

Of the role he portrays in the movie, Gollum, Andy Serkis explained: “He’s never really been that far away from me. He’s always been kind of lurking under my skin.”

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters on December 14th and stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Elijah Wood, and Evangeline Lilly.
