Superhero franchises are big. There's just something about seeing your favorite superheros on the big screen after reading about them for years in comic books. They're killing it at the Box Office too. Remember The Avengers? Yeah, they raked in $1.45 billion in receipts worldwide. The much-anticipated conclusion to Christopher Nolan's Batman series The Dark Knight Rises? It's still in it's second week but it's already brought in $198 million.
We've still got a healthy line-up of superhero sequels to look forward to this summer and in the coming years. One of these is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is moving along forward nicely with the hiring of sibling directors Anthony and Joe Russo. Anthony gave an interview recently and set the tone for the the sequel to 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger.
Well, we like the [story]. I can't talk too much about specifics, that's the way Marvel handles things. I can say in general that there's sort of a darker, edgier sensibility at work there that we found appealing, and that is going find its way into Captain [America] in the modern day.
-- Anthony Russo on Captain America: The Winter Soldier
That might not be much, but at least it's something. To celebrate superheros in all their big-screen glory, we've put together a gallery of superhero movie sequels to watch out for. Check it out!
