‘Venom’ Movie in the Works, Might be Developed to Tie Into ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’
Five years ago, the Spider-Man franchise starring Tobey Maguire went with the Venom storyline in Spider-Man 3. Needless to say, Peter Parker came off as being overbearing, Mary Jane was boring, and Roger Ebert from the Chicago Sun Times gave the movie two stars out of a possible four.
The movie wasn't that bad, but it wasn't good either. However, it put Venom on the map for moviegoers who didn't actually read the comics and paved the way for future flicks that highlighted the alien that bonds with hosts and makes them go bad as a result.
That said, Sony has a Venom movie planned for the future. This was revealed by The Amazing Spider-Man producers Avi Arad and Matthew Tolmac when they sat down for an interview with the folks over at Hollywood.com. Tolmac explains that Venom will be following the modern and realistic approach that was used on The Amazing Spider-Man.
Tolmac also explains why they're choosing to go with the Venom storyline for future movies in the franchis: "He was a journalist. He had the wrong story, he got in trouble for it, he got fired. The whole essence to us for the Marvel characters is stay close to the bible, stay close to the emotional story, and the rest is fun. Look for the worlds to make sense with one another."
It might be a few more years before the Venom movie becomes a reality. In the meantime, mark your calendars down for July 3rd, because that's when The Amazing Spider-Man hits 2D, 3D, and IMAX theaters.
