Is Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Ready to Walk in his Dad’s Footsteps? (VIDEO)

Like Father, Like Son!

The boxing world has been full of nothing but strife lately. Ever since the controversial Manny Pacquiao/Timothy Bradley decision and Floyd Mayweather Jr. going to jail the sport has been in turmoil.

Can these guys come back from these roadblocks or is the sport losing two of the greatest champions that it has seen in recent years? If so, who is going to be the next big draw? Who will the fans pay the money to see?

The son of a former champion might be the guy to pull the sport out of the doldrums. I’m talking about none other than Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

With a famous former champion for a Dad it would seem as if his future would be preordained; that he’d be working his way up the amateur ranks from the moment he was old enough to strap on the gloves.

After just two amateur fights he went pro at the tender age of 17, and it has been all uphill from there. In roughly nine years he has been in 48 fights and has yet to lose recording 46 wins (32 by knockout) along with one draw and one no contest.

Chavez is the current WBC Middleweight champion and just completed his third title defense Saturday night when he recorded a technical knockout of Andy Lee in the 7th round. Next up will be Sergio Gabriel Martinez on September 15 later this year in Las Vegas.

Martinez is considered to be a better athlete, quicker and more agile than Chavez. However Chavez may be more than enough of a fighter to take Martinez down. Should he do just that, he could be well on his way to stardom.
