Guacamelee! E3 Trailer- A Delectable Dose of Madness (VIDEO)

A splendid sight indeed. Mine eyes hath nary witnessed such ostentatious wonderment since the days of the Roman Empire, with their glorious man-skirts and locust luncheons. Developer Drinkbox are preparing what has been dubbed a ‘Metroidvania beat ‘em up platformer,’ and these disparate elements appear to coalesce rather sexily. A gaming Frankenstein’s monster, if you will. (You KNOW what a handsome devil he was. As far as hideous man-freaks made from an assortment of freshly-sawn corpse-parts go. Well, his wife was hot. Guacamelee! (when not striding majestically like a colossus betwixt the pages of The Big Book of Video Game Genre Conventions, freshly ravaged and wantonly strewn upon the floor) introduces us to a Mexican Luchador. This hulking topless tyrant will be our protagonist through what appears to be a remarkable experience. Aesthetically, the levels have been lovingly festooned with some of the finest 2d art I’ve seen for quite a period. As rather a connoisseur, I must say it’s up there with the pantheon of Rayman Origins, BloodRayne Betrayal and Skullgirls.

It looks a real treat to play too, with the exploration and platforming elements promising to lend a good madness-mélange to proceedings. It takes nuts like cannonballs to merrily take a steaming dump on The Big Book of Video Game Genre Conventions, after all. Was it worth replacing Grandpappy’s copy? We shall see.
